    my free underquilt project...

While doing some work around the barn I saw a woman throw two horse blankets in the trash. I rushed over to them and saw that they had rips in the part that covers the tail so I offered to patch them for her (seriously, these things can easily cost $200) her reply,"patch em and you can have em" I smiled and thanked her while inwardly peeved and her attitude... Anyhow

My thoughts are this: they will never fit my guys as this woman has two draft horses so they are useless to me buuuuut they are water proof, relatively light once you cut all the buckles off, and filled with thisulite (I don't think I spelled that right). I've got elastic, paracord, and snaps in my arsenal. Could this work?

*i have successfully slept on the ground using two as a sleeping bag while waiting on a mare to foal so I can attest to the warmth somewhat.

    my free underquilt project...

Sounds like an interesting project. They are not likely to be lightweight, but will probably be functional. At the very least you'll probably have fun doing it. Make sure to post some pictures if you give it a shot. Good luck.
Crayons - they might look different, but they all taste the same

Will do! I have the lovely choices of navy blue with white snow flakes or pink with white snow flakes... but if it works, I'd be willing to search some clearance sites for better colors

And it would always have a nice, hay/horsey scent so you should fall asleep with a smile!

This is very true! I do so love that smell!

I'm super excited and waiting til my foot has been on ice for thirty minutes (experiment with barefoot running gone wrong) then I shall go get some cord. Even better new is that by using the existing seams, I can more than likely have three underquilts from this experiment. My hubby and bestie will be thrilled!
