    Boundary Waters Minnesota

Heading up to the BWCA for the first time and have a question. My suspension is whoopies with straps and toggles. Anyone know what length my tree straps need to be? Typically I use 6' and want to get away with the lightest load I can but if the trees are too big for those I will bring 8' +.

    Thanks!

I think 6' are fine. Lots of skinnyish trees up there.

Depends on the site. 6' should be fine in most places, but I've been at a few sites where the ideal hang is from larger trees. There are some BIG trees up there intermingled with the smaller. I'd take the 6 and maybe some amsteel extenders just in case.

I'd bring the 8' not specifically for the diameter of trees but in case the distance between them isn't ideal, if you run out of whoopie you'll have plenty of strap.
    Good luck,

I use 6' straps and bring an extra just in case. Haven't needed it yet though.
I'm headed in ep# 36 on Wednesday. Should be glorious weather. Enjoy!

I have had no issues with just brining 6' in BWCA and I always bring 1 extra. In Quetico I have had issues with 6' not being long enough for most of the trees available and had to use an 8' on both ends. Now just carry let the whoopee wrap the tree if needed.
