    Northern MN Canoer

Been lurking for a while. I'm a 31 year old explosives engineer and long time canoe camper, former boyscout, ect... From north eastern MN, whixh means... i have been going into the BWCA (30min drive) and similar areas since I was a little kid. Hammocks never once came up, never once was it even a fleeting thought in the back of a corner of an unused portion of my mind. Then after my June BWCA trip when looking into an idea we had for next year's quetico trip I accidentally a shug video on YouTube.

Tonight is my first night in a hammock, back yard for tonight, then into the forest Friday night if it goes well...

Of course it's going to be a massive thunderstorm tonight, with a sky bright as cristmass and wouldnt be complete without sideways rain. Just shows you cant trust the weather on your phone any more than the weather man.

I was in the BWCA for the first time last week, with our troop's Varsity Team and Venturing Crew. I hammock camped for the first time. Our campsite on Perent Lake did not have an optimal spot for the hammock, but I made it work. I didn't sleep well, but I chalk that up to paranoia about animals and weather. I just couldn't relax it seems.
