There are a ton of good backpacking places around your new home. Question is, how are are you wanting to drive? Close by you have Mammoth Cave National Park and the Land Between the Lakes. Not much farther you have the Big South Fork, plus a ton of KY and TN state parks. Of course, you can go to the Smokies and all around them in the mountains are a whole host of wilderness areas with great trails. Southern Illinois and Indiana even have some good trails. Want to go as far as WV or AR or AL?

Give a shout if you'd like to discuss by phone. I'm biased, but do recommend the Nashville Backpacker Meetup.com group at:

He joker, I live west of Ft Campbell right on the edge of LBL and spent a good bit of time there. PM me any time and we'll talk if you like.

    No Problem!

Get ready for a little cloudhiking life hack. If you go to http://www.cloudhiking.com/assets/images/maps/ you can see all of his really well done trail maps. If you look for any that end with "geo-map" (like the new Cummins Falls one: http://www.cloudhiking.com/assets/im...ls-geo-map.pdf or the incredibly well done Savage Gulf one http://www.cloudhiking.com/assets/im...lf-geo-map.pdf) those are the new maps that he is making wherein he's embedded the geo meta-tag data into. The REALLY cool thing about those is you can download the free Avenza PDF maps app to your smartphone, load one of those geo-maps pdf files into the app and Wham! you have a free gps trail map.

I hear there are hundreds of people with big packs on hiking every day in that area. They also like to shoot so be careful.
Happy Trails to one and all.

Land Between the Lakes also has a ton of gravel roads and dirt roads that go on seemingly forever with lots of really old cemeteries back in there.
