    Setup Improvements/Recommendations?

I've been researching around for a few days and have decided on a hammock setup for backpacking. I'm fairly new to the hammock scene, so any suggestions are welcome!

Dutchware 11ft hammock + continuous ridgeline + ENO Atlas straps
    Warbonnet Edge tarp
    Jacks R Better 26" X 48" torso pad

    Thanks

Don't know why you wouldn't take Dutch up on his offering of a discounted suspension system for the hammock(?) I use the Cinch Bugs.

I like my Edge tarp. Beautifully built. Only complaint is that lack of choice of color. When I get around to buying a foul weather tarp, I'll probably get a Winter Dream. All the same color options as the Hangar from the same folks at UGQ. They have an outstanding rep as well.

Just order the whole deal from Dutch and be done with it. If you have questions about how it works or what your options are, call them. I personally would skip the pads and go right for a 20* under quilt.

Agreed. Don't do the Atlas Straps. If you don't want to go with the Ditch options you could also get a whoopie sling suspension kit from Arrowhead or any number of other vendors here.

And I second the going straight to an UQ. I did pads for awhile. Used an old camping pad,Walmart blue ones, and the JrB evasote ones. While they all work, I was always readjusting them and def was not as comfortable as using an UQ. Again Arrowhead has a great deal with the KAQ Jarbidge at around 100$ for 3 season.

skip the atlas straps. heavy, bulky, and completely over-engineered. i recently picked up an Argon hammock from Dutch with the Dutch clip and hook suspension setup and could not be happier.

I agree with ditching the atlas straps. Grab the kevlar straps from dutch and either work it with a whoopie sling (my preference) or a cinch buckle setup. I would also seriously look into what underquilt setup will work for you. Remember that you can always upgrade, but getting out and trying it is the important part.

Did anyone mention ditching the Atlas straps and the Pad will work but if you want to keep you whole body warm you will need a full length pad. Happy hanging.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

With that gathered end Dutch Hammock, I think the right AHE UQ is the New River, in various lengths. Unfortunately, not quite as cheap as the Jarbridge. Still, an AHE synthetic is not a bad choice.

I'm gonna pile on with the suspension advice. Use slings or buckles, your choice, but both are better than straps, not to mention weight and bulk. I'd say use whatever you've got for a pad while it's still warm up there; even a strip of Reflectix or a windshield shade will work for now until you figure out what you want.

As Sophisticated Noodles said, it's important to just get out and try things.

I'll echo what everyone else has suggested.... lose the ENO straps... go with dutch gear. The pad will get you through if you don't have the funds, but definitely start saving for an UQ. I am stilling waiting on my down UQ and use a synthetic DIY similar to Arrowhead-equipements Jarbridge quilt and it packs smaller that a typical sleeping bag.
