I know the feeling, I just bought mine a few weeks ago. I live in Florida so my biggest concern was coverage from the rain. I didn't need a tarp with doors right now. I then went through some reviews and decided on the shape of the tarp, which the hex fitted my needs better. Then I made a short list of tarps from the cottage vendors that were within my price range. Which one was from warbonnet, wilderness logics, and simply light designs. Whichever tarp you decide if you decide on hardware I highly suggest dutchware. I used his tarp flyz with the lash it already tied in and it made setup quick and easy.

Oh, I also went with a 12' ridgeline on my tarp to give me little more coverage since my hammock netty is 11'.

My guess is there are no currently available hammocks that are rated for the weight of an alligator.

Surely that depends on the weight of the 'gator? Younger ones would easily be light enough for any hammock!
