Yep, close anyway. The Surgeon's Loop is wrapped twice around the standing end inside the loop, and the Figure Nine is wrapped twice around the standing line outside the loop. Good eye Rug.

I did some research last night. I don't think this is either the Figure Nine Loop or the Surgeon's Loop. It looks like a cross between the two. I'm not sure if this means anything or whether it has any serviceable value, but it still remains unique from anything I have seen, thus far.

I am showing each of them on their related sides. The 1st 3 are on one side of each and the 2nd 3 are on the flip side of each. The order is; 1 & 4) My knot; 2 & 5) Figure 9 Loop; 3 & 6) Surgeons' Loop

How about a reverse Figure of Nine then? A figure 9 is a figure 8 with two turns around the standing part before completing the figure 8. Normally the two turns are wrapped "up" the standing line, yours are wrapped "down" the standing line.

    Figure of Nine Loop

Reverse Figure of Nine (your knot), you are just tying it differently.

I've used the Figure of Nine for as long as I can remember, but never knew what to call it. Thanks!

That's it. So the reverse Figure of Nine wraps twice around the standing end, thend pulls under the first wrap instead of over it, like the std Figure of Nine.

again the level of expertise here freeeeeeeeeks me out!!! IMPRESSED I AM!
Speaking of knots, on this last section hike I hung 16 nights in a row, used the Garda and rings 16 nights in a row.......yesterday I was turning on a friend to hammocking and the Garda/rings slipped twice and I hit the ground! I had forgotten the Garda----the irony is that I was hell-bent on showing her the beauty of hanging and tried for the first time the loosed/slipped buntline from memory and it worked! Now to imagine the knots you guys know, it's variations and the history--again I'm freeked out
