zukiguy, look like ours turned out very similar, other than the material used for the T fittings. Posted mine in DIY:

The T-fitting are 2", schedule 80. In an ideal world I would have used schedule 120 pipe as the ID is just slightly bigger than the netting tubing. With the schedule 80 there's quite a bit of slop but it seems to work OK.

If you are using 1 1/8 fence railings, the fittings I used from tarps.com worked perfectly and are pretty cheap:

I would use the "1 3/8 Open L pipe slides through $5.00" fittings.

The aluminum tubing I'm using is just over 1-3/4" so those fittings are way too small. I may end up building another stand for my kids using these fittings.

After looking at the spurtle stand, I am wondering if anyone has done a style similar to Hammeck's using those tarps.com fittings. You would have to cut some of the "pipe-through T" fittings so they sit close together and support the ridge pole. But it think it would be easy enough. Just wondering if anyone has done one like that?

Alternately, I do like the simple spurtle design...does anyone know how it fairs with the big fellas around 275lb? Does the single support pole per side handle the weight OK?

Thanks for the info and any links.
    Cheers.
Check my post under "Hammock stand DIY". I weigh under 200 pounds, but I'm sure mine could be beefed up for you bigger guys.
