Do i really need a UQ???

I'm trying to decide if i need an UQ so i thought i would pick the minds that know.
I've been using a CC pad or sometimes a Thermarest air pad with relatively good results but feel that perhaps i'm compromising the hammocks comfort.

After some research i believe that the Yeti would best suit my needs as its light and simple like me.

Would the Yeti be fine for a Speer hammock?
    Too hot for summer use?

As far as I know the use of underquilts in summer are rare. The only true way of telling whether you need one or not is by going out and trying different temperatures yourself.

IMO the Yeti is an improvement over any pad. In cooler conditions, it provides needed coverage at the shoulders that no pad can achieve. It's lighter and packs smaller. Simple to install and adjust. Well-made! Convinced yet??

Personally I don't consider my hammocks comfort much, but i do take my own seriously. I presently use a North Face Alegheney rectangular sleeping bag
as a Uq. Had it in the gear closet and at $60.00 the price is right. Tied in the corners it reverts back to a sleepingbag. Try hanging with a sleeping bag, baby quilt, fleece liner, etc. used as a UQ and you'll quickly make up your own mind. Then spend what you can.

Odds are, if you keep hammocking, you'll spring for an UQ.

I started using a pad, a few cold shoulders, etc., and when I moved around, it often didn't in the same way. Tried tying a sleeping bag around it as a UQ, and that was a clear improvement. Too much trouble, and still not right, so got a Speer SnugFit.

    PERFECT.

You might be surprised at what temps you will want the underquilt in place. If you don't need it, just vent it or push it aside completely (the Yetis excel at that). I never go hiking without an underquilt. I don't always use it, but I gladly carry the extra 12 oz of goodness.

    BA pad

I have not tried an UQ yet, but I find that using the Big Agnes insulated air pad is more comfortable than simply lying in the hammock without it. The air pad creates a near perfectly flat bed-like environment and also offers enough head and neck support that I dont need any extra pillows or neck rolls for comfort. In colder temps, however, I can see the advantage of using a small UQ in addition to the air pad.
