    under quilts and top quilts

Just finished 2 underquilts and 2 top quilts. I was going for 30 deg quilts but due to some miscalculating and other factors ended up with 18-20 deg quilts. I used some fabric I picked up at Handcocks fabrics. I found it in the sale section for 90% off, or 54 cents a yard. I bought all of it, about 20 yds. Its a light weight nylon, appears to have a DWR coating on one side, not rip stop. I think its about 1.1 oz/yd. The down came from costco pillows. 600 fill power. Funny thing was I bought 3 pillows and one was not down, strange. I returned it all cut open with no problems, and got a new one. The tags on the pillows say guaranteed 75% down but I think they were better than that. I saw only a few feathers. Anyway for $40 each king sized I couldn't go wrong. They ended up about 25 oz each. That is a 12' hammock not a short quilt. THe quilts are both 74".

Great job. Stuff it and remove from stuff sack a few times to see if you have any leakage with the mystery fabric. Now you can be warm in most conditions where you live.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

They're awesome, love the colour combo. I'm always more impressed with the bargain bucket quilts than some fancy 900fp job, yours are great.

Really nice, the underquilt looks very professional! I wish that I had the patience, but me and a sewing machine don't see eye to eye!

I have fiddled with them a little a few feathers have come out but not bad. I think my total cost for all the these was about $150. This was mostly because the fabric was 54c per yard. Total score there. I like the colors also, which is good because I didnt have a choice. This was all they had. The hard part about this project was keeping the fabric from shredding on the edges. I did the underquilts first then I used a modified soldering iron as a hot knife on the top quilts. This was a huge improvement.
