Would it be possible to take a 9 foot hammock and add 2 feet of nylon to the end of it. If anyone has done this I would be interested in the result.

You can but I doubt it will hold. The seam will be the weak link and depending on the fabric it may rip.
IMO you will need at least 3-4 seams and you have to make sure both layers of fabric are absolutely flat. If it forms any kind of pockets you will add stress to a section of the seam and then the thread will break or the fabric will rip.
My advice is forget it and make a new hammock. You have a working hammock but if it rips you have nothing

I think it's possible but I don't think it's worth the time and effort to add a potential point of failure.

Thanks guys. I kind of thought there would be stress problems.
Stress is one thing. It can be managed to a point. My biggest concern would not be stress perse but abrasion on the seam. A flat felled seam would be a requirement and it would be subject to abrasion from the feet and rubbing against the rest of the hammock fabric as you move around. Not to mention the discomfort factor of the seam itself. IMO it is not worth the effort to try. But if you are just wanting to play with different lengths to see what best floats your boat it might be worth as a prototype experiment.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

If I try this I will let you know. I have a hammock in the mail, that I am sure will be a tad short of ideal. The other thought I had was to open up the head end and make it like a bridge hammock; so not making it longer, but making it wider at the shoulders; in absence of an ideal length. But If I can get by for a season with it short, I will likely, pass this down to someone shorter, and buy a blackbird.
