When you say it was a bit wobbly, can I ask why you didn't run 2 lines from each end and pegnthem out to stabilise it?
This is the stand I really want to make, but sourcing the L and T brackets in the UK is proving to be a pain in the ***, so I think I'm gonna have to make a turtle dog for now!!

I would guess that staking some lines out from each end would eliminate most of the end-to-end wobble for sure. I personally have never tried it since I built it for indoor use. I bet someone on here has given it a try though. But really the sway is not too bad once you get used to it. I was convinced it was not going to be strong enough when I started using it and felt it wobbling a bit, but it holds up great!

I agree -- it wiggles end to end when you move around, but nothing (bad) happens.

I have done this with mine and it helps with the sway. I come in around 260 and slept in it fine for a number of days without them. But my wife and daughter were weirded out by it so I added lines on the end. Works well if you get the right stakes. Here in Florida I used the orange screw type stakes. But the stand holds up fine without. That said you can't put a price on families piece of mind, lol.

Looking at the 1 inch open l fittings
    Will they work?
And still support up to 290 ?
Was thinking using 1 inch on everything including top rail
Home Depot will cut them free for me

I have a stand with the 1” because I acquired a bunch of rigid 1” conduit, works great!

I'm 360lbs, using 1-3/8" top rail. 6' legs and 2 7' lengths for my 14' top rail. I couldn't stake it out cause it would pull the thing apart. I did however stake it in. Meaning that the steaks were under the stand, pulling the ends together. I found this unnecessary though as I have been on this many nights now without it. All I do now, when I put the stand together is push 1 end of the stand in till the top rail is straight. Making sure its not sagging or bulged up.
My worst night in a hammock was still better than my best night in a tent!!!!
