Diamond tarp with what I got.

I have about 12 feet of silnylon. I was keeping to make doors for the hex tarps I have/had. I have decided to make/making 2 tarps with doors. I promised a scout a hammock for selling $2600 worth of popcorn. We were moving over to the troop so I was no longer in charge. The pack didn't even really acknowledged his effort. So I told him I would make him a hammock to make it up. I plan on making it a full set up. Hammock, straps, whoopies bugnet ( sewn or seperate havent decided yet and a tarp.

I have most of the material. The hammock body is done, I have straps done, I have the material for a rl, stuff sack and I need to order amsteel for the loops, and whoopies. I need some amsteel anyway so I will be buying that from dutch today.

I have alittle over 12 feet of silnylon. I tried looking for a diy instructions for a diamond tarp, but didnt. What can I make with 12 feet, or do I need more?

Thanks to squidbilly I dont need to learn how to make an asym tarp. He is going to send me the remaining yards needed to make a full tarp. Now the scout can use this set up in all seasons, he will have doors for weather and privacy. Thanks dale.

For future reference, you can look at ZPacks website, for pics.

ZPacks > Shelters > Diamond Hammock Tarp > Asym Diamond Hammock Tarp > View Diagram

    Looks like the material amount = [ length of tarp + ( hypotenuse of rolled hem x 2 ) + ( hypotenuse of ridgeseam hem/overlap x 2 ].

I've made a micro Ogee tarp with 12 feet/4 yards of material.. pitched low to the hammock and closed up, its basically a bivy sack with an open bottom... works good for a short hammock, say about 9 feet maximum with appropriate sag. I ended up with a 9 ft ridge line and roughly 7 ft width. It also works decently as a ground shelter if a little on the tiny side.
