    Tarp Hang

Ok, I am new in here and have a question about my tarp hanging. I have an Etowah 10 x 10 which I haven't taken out yet and have only hung in the backyard for practise so far. My question is this. I have been using tent stakes and guylines and I have noticed in some of the videos that some folks use piece of shock cord to help with the tension. Is this something that I have to do or will I be ok with just using the guylines on the bottom that I have now?

    Thanks Pixie

If your tarp is made from nylon it will tend to stretch when it gets wet. So that is the purpose of the shock cord or other self tensioning guy lines. They will help keep you tarp pitch taut when the nylon gets wet. They are not necessary by any means, however they are in the nice to have category so that you aren't adjusting your tarp guy lines to keep your tarp pitch taut.

    Cheers

I found some really small bungee cords in the shed I am thinking I might try those until I can figure out the knots for the shock cord. I think shug had a video on them.

Shock cords are not needed. Some hangers use shock cords to maintain even tension and a sharp look. It's a preference sort of thing. And sometimes when tripping over a guy line a shock cord helps keep stake in the ground. And since I've never used shock cords, there may be a glitch in my knowledge. Good luck PreciousPixie.

PreciousPixie I think you will head towards a longer tarp. Read the forum and talk with cottage vendors about tarp dimensions.

I like the tension and I think that there will be less stress on my tarp in the wind and rain. I used them last night in the yard when I slept outside and it looked really good this morning Thanks, I need all the luck I can get!! Pixie
