Hello from a new hanger in Canada

Hallo! I spent today getting my bedroom prepped to hang a hammock and am itching for the hardware store to open tomorrow morning to get that sucker up! I have some health issues that make me wonder if it might be easier on my joints ... and I even wonder if it might allow me to do some camping again in some of the gorgeous provincial parks we have here in Ontario! Anyways, glad to have found these forums as I'm sure I'll find loads of answers here on how best to do this!

Indigo, Welcome. As someone who suffers from more than the usual aches and pains associated with backpacking I can sympathize (I have some major neck and back problems along bad knees). I have found that using a hammock has helped in that it eliminates all the getting up and down from the ground as well as bending over to get in and out of a tent. It is also nice to have something that can function as both bed and chair. Best of luck and I am sure you will enjoy your hammock.

I have had several major spinal injuries. I've broken my back twice, I broken my neck once, I have 4 compressed vertebrae, and I actually just broke my pelvis in February. Hammocking has given me the outdoors back. I can now wake up rested while camping. My wife also has rheumatoid arthritis and now she can camp with me in her hammock. NO MORE STIFF MORNINGS!!

Welcome Indigo from a fellow Ontarian. I'm also getting "up there" a bit with athritis in my neck & back. Can still manage a portage (these new ultra-light canoes are a lifesaver!) but sleeping on the ground was becoming brutal ... despite increasingly thick versions of mattresses. Stumbling across the amazing Shug's videos changed everything & now I 'hang my own hang' every chance I get. Lots to learn but you found the right place. Folks here are very generous with their hard-won expertise. Enjoy the ride!

Thanks for the welcome Red Kanu! I have RA and Fibromyalgia and it has sucked not being able to do so many activities for so long. It's so great to find people who've found ways to still enjoy the outdoors! I was watching Shug's how *not* to get into a hammock earlier today with great amusement! How great you can still manage a portage; gotta love new developments that help!

    Welcome from Northern Ontario,
The can replace Hips, knees, shoulders, eyes.. and a large number of other body parts. But until they can replace spines, I will sleep comfortably and pain free in my Blackbird every night. Welcome to the world of the weightless and painless.
