I too have never had an issue with compressed down items lofting back up. Neither duck nor goose and I've packed things pretty tight sometimes, most recently a down bag in a Granite Gear wp compression sack for a 13 day BWCAW/Quetico trip.

    Go for it!

It depends if they are from the same maker. If they are you might check state law to make sure it's legal they cohabitat.

Otherwise I've never had a problem with short compression times.

Did you do a test pack yet? Throw them in with all your other gear and see how everything fits. You may be able to get away with just putting them in a drybag and smashing it to let all the air out. You can get it compressed pretty well without really "compressing" it mechanically like you would with straps/buckles.

I have two compression bags just in case I ever take a trip where I absolutely need the space. But I haven't used them yet.

Is one dominant over the other? or true mix? I really would like a 50º to breed with my 20º to get a 35º quilt. I am fearful that the higher temp quilt may be dominant!

I had wondered about the time limits on compressing down as well...hence me reading this, but the comments have been very entertaining i might add!

Have a very nice waterproof Kelty compression sack that I purchased at a local military surplus store that is the perfect fit for both of them together with a garbage bag for added protection. Is it safe to compress them tightly? They will probably be compressed for about 6 hours before unpacking.

    Thanks Pixie
You can compress them together. I personally wouldn't recommend using a compression sack. It adds more weight . Use a trash bag cinch it and put it upside down in your pack. Fills the pack space better.

Agree with no compression sack and just place them in a trash compactor bag, cinched and put in the bottom of the pack. I alway's place the TQ in first and then the UQ because the UQ is 3/4 and smaller. I also grab it first to shake out, fluff up and hang as soon as the hammock is up. The TQ comes out 2nd or later for it's fluffing process. This allows both to breath and be out of the pack for longer periods of time. Expecially the underquilt to insure warmth.
