    traveler weights

    Hi,

trying to sort out my SAR bags (good grief, I joined SAR) and getting crazy with the weight options. I keep going back and forth between throwing in the Blackbird or getting a lightweight ground shelter. Because why waste a perfectly good excuse to accumulate gear? Anyways, the weight column on the Warbonnet page is ... um... lightweight? So what's the weight of a double 1.1 traveler and how small will it pack?

Already figured I'll end up with a foam pad or NeoAir in the pack, along with the MacCat. If the hammock's small enough to fit, why not?

My Traveler single 1.7 with 4' straps and 6' whoopie's weighs 15.9oz. A DL 1.1 should only be a tad heavier.

My SL 1.7 with line/straps option weighs 15.45oz. I just ordered a DL 1.1 Traveler from Brandon, and he said it would be around 2oz heavier. I hope it doesn't weight 20oz though! I'll weigh and post when I get it.

hmm... looks like I might get a single. I'm looking to trim as much as I can, otherwise I might as well take the Blackbird.

My other option is the Sublite, which is the tyvek one person tarp tent. 18 oz! and it gives shade unlike nylon options, which only seem to retain heat. Unlike backpacking where I'm totally into comfort, SAR is more about expediency - if I'm getting any sleep at all it will be in daytime, we search at night when people are likely sitting still.

    weights

Traveller double 1.1 with 1" straps and shockcord pillow leash = 21.2 oz.

JRB 8X8 with ridgline and stakes = 17.9 oz.

Sublite with pitch kit and stakes = 23.0 oz.

But add the ThinLight 3/8" pad at 5.6 or the Big Agnes Insulated Air Core at 20.7 and the total for the hammock is 44.7 oz. and 43.7 for the Sublite.

An ounce more to sleep in a hammock!!!!! Big deal
It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.

How could you sleep knowing I'm out there all alone, lost, cold, and afraid . . .

Actually, it will look more like this:

    Sublite with etc: 23 oz
NeoAir: 13 oz OR GG 1/4" evazote: 5-7 oz depending on how I trim it
    Thermolite sack/mylar blanket: 8 oz.

    Orrrrrr....

Traveler and JRB tarp and associated line/stakes: 39.1
NeoAir: 13 oz OR GG 1/4" evazote: 5-7 oz depending on how I trim it
    Thermolite sack/mylar blanket: 8 oz

Bigger difference in terms of "stuff" and weight. I may throw together a synthetic quilt (probably a 30-40 degree one) to put in, depending, but - consider that I will not be sleeping ALL NIGHT. We will be moving at night and probably will be catnapping during the day/morning hours. We are one of the few SAR teams that will do night searches - but it actually makes tracking easier!

just weighed one at 23.6 with the adj web susp, line/strap will save you about 4 oz, so just under 20 probably.
