Finally got my Jan hang in! Went up to Big Hill at Harriman State Park, not a soul in sight. Got down to 17F--coldest I've ever done! My 20* quilts plus an insulated Thermarest did the job pretty well, but wrapping my down parka around the feet end ala Shug really helped out. Slept a solid 7 hours until about 5:30am when I got a couple cold spots. I think a winter sock or top cover should add about all the heat I need.
    That's NYC on the left

    Nice spot!
Get lost in the woods and find yourself again. A vacation,to me, is working with your hands and surviving because of the fruits of your labor. In the business world I teach;in the natural world I learn.

January hang was done tarpless on a calm, star filled, 9° night last Friday. My DIY unerquilt, sleeping bag, and DIY top quilt had me so warm I had to take my socks off and pull the legs of my flece pants up to keep from sweating. The frost was so heavy in the morning that my top quilt was like a frozen cocoon.

The battery on my camera didn't agree with the cold so I couldn't get any pictures, but it was a great hang!

Got my January hang in last night. Forecast was for a pretty warm night, down to about 30, but rain switching to snow. I made some improvements to my tarp setup since my December hang, and the deployment and set up was much better. I crawled in about 8:30 PM with some rain coming down. I had to adjust my underquilt twice, but got it dialed before I decided it was time for sleep. Slept really well until about 4:00 AM. Noticed my tarp was sagging a bit due to a buildup of heavy, wet snow. Knocked it off from the inside and slept until 6:30 AM. Got to use my 20* HG Burrow and was really pleased that it kept me toasty warm in just long johns, flannels, wool socks, and a fleece with a beanie. I am more of a 3 season guy and am chomping at the bit for some warmer temps and snow melt to go hit the high country. Sitting at 5 for 5 on the challenge and loving it.

BwhntMT - great job! Rain+snow+freezing temps= nice test of your setup!

This is my first of hopefully many #12Nights Posts this year

Jan. 1, 2016 off to a good start.

You may question the two hammocks, I use the second as a gear sling, holding in this case my VPAP machine. I have SEVERE sleep apnea and when I have the option for an electric site I take it.
