I'm on track since September, and last night was my coldest night yet in a hammock @ 25F (18F w/wind chill which I don't count, but it was breezy). I'm trying to find the limits of the winter gear I DIY'ed thanks to the wealth of information on this site. It feels good to sleep in a hammock you made under a tarp that you made nice and toasty in quilts you made. And I was nice and toasty all night except when my UQ twisted one time and I got a cold blast on my feet, quickly remedied.

I'm on the other side of the state this week for a class and I'm too cheap to pay for a hotel, and prefer sleeping in a hammock. So, I'm sleeping in a friend's back yard. The weather has been a little miserable, above freezing with snow and rain. Tonight will probably be the worst night as it's almost 40 with snow on the ground and foggy. I have yet to be able to keep my gear dry and stay warm all night in conditions like this, so we'll see. I've learned my lesion from previous experience and brought my insulation in every day to dry. Anyway the challenge has been fun and this puts me at 2 for 2.

I skipped December because I was crazy busy but finally got back out there last night. Got a new tarp and suspension system complete with bling. Feeling good. Can't wait for some cold nights and my next bonus from work for some new gear.

Had a fun hang in the snow. Sight selection was limited so the suspension lines are long but it worked. I left my DIY speed hook type suspension hanging on my straps in the basement so I had to improvise with some Chinese loop aliens. Worked well but I was a little nervous at first. Temp got to 14°F with light snow all night.

It was definitely worth the time to make. It kept my TQ from getting wet.

-20! I think my butt feels a bit frozen just thinking about hanging that cold!

    That's a great picture!
It's not survival gear, it's just a bunch of work
