Using the hammock calculator with the Ridgerunner

We're going to be building a steel patio cover at our home. There will be a span of 17' that I would like to have two anchor points welded on during fabrication. However, when I use the calculator it appears to have it hung too low (3.8'). So I wanted to see where I need to make corrections to my calculations.



I like a 25 degree hang for the Ridgerunner with a seat height of 18" and I weight 165 lbs. I think my problem is knowing exactly the correct hammock length and ridgeline length to use. Can someone help clarify this for me. Thanks!

I can't find the problem with the calculator, but I agree that under 4ft. is not the answer you want. I'm thinking 5 1/2ft or so for a 17ft. span. It will be interesting to see what the experts have to say.

Try putting in your hammock length plus distance of triangles.

Have you hung from trees 17' apart before, or reasonably close to it?? I'd go out with a tape measure to get tree strap heights and use those numbers.

You have a ridgeline of 120" and a hammock of 121" that seems off. But I don't know ridge runners.

I just did this and it works perfect for me however I have shortened my triangles to 32". Set it up at 25* and measure for ridge line distance triangle tip to tip. Then measure hammock plus triangles and use that. Your ridgeline and hammock length will be longer than mine but you can see the difference already here...

I agree with testing it in the field. The correct distance is key to a good hang, but much of it is preference. Forget the calculator.
