    Harbor Freight Straps

There has been some talk on the Forums about the use of Harbor Freight Straps for a webbing suspension.
My father is in the market for a new suspension for his Claytor Jungle Hammock, so I figured I would pick some up and check them out.

This Polyester webbing is called "Lashing Straps."
I found two different ones that were the same price: $3.99 for a two pack.

The one on the left has a "working load" of 330 lbs.
The 330 is the working load of the strap including the buckle-
that means the buckle won't hold past that weight.
I will not be using the buckle. I think the strap has a breaking strength of around 1000 lbs, the same as the straps on the right.

I found a bad spot on one of the straps. It is two feet in from the cambuckle.
I guess I am going to have to return these.

I got some yellow 1" ratchet straps from them that were rated at 1500 lbs for the strap only, not the buckle.

Is that safe for a guy your size?
Relax, monsters under the hammock are easily distracted by twister-playing squirrels.

I weigh in at about 160 and with all my sleeping gear, hammock, insul., pack, etc. I'm not sure what it adds up to . . . BUT I have been using these same straps AND the cams for a while now and I can report no problems at all. Half the time I even forget to tie a knot behind the cam and have not had any slippage or stretch issues.

I have been using this same setup for over a year with about 15 nights camping and the only differance is I have some screw chainlink things instead of the fancy buckles, and it has held up really well. The yellow gets not so yellow as it gets dirty from use,and I even have a few "bad" spots like pictured. If someone is seriosly worried about this being good enough to hold their weight, I only weigh around 375 and it stretches a little but it holds just fine and it was cheap.

A complete webbing suspension from brandon is only $10. I bet the weight on his stuff is quite a bit lighter as well.
