Dutch CRL and asundry advice needed

I was ready to spring for a Dutch CRL assembly with soft shackles and read a post somewhere suggesting using an Arrowhead style 2.2 Zing-It CRL with single prussic for larger tarps. Not sure if this is because of the stouter cord, less prussic use, or both. My only experience is that the Hennessy Backbacker assym fly, which is tiny, didn't seem to stay put well with their prussics, but I'm sure that has a bit to do with the silnylon and tarp suspension doubling as tarp ridgeline. I'm also wondering if a less "slippery cord" would be better for the prussic loops. Your feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

I have used the Dutch CRL on everything from a Superfly to my current Cuben setup and I highly recommend it. For me it is the easiest, fastest and most secure system I have used. FYI, I use the soft shakle connections as a prussics.

Dutch CRL and asundry advice needed

Most people don't have any trouble with prussiks on the 1.7mm Zing-It/Lash-It. I'm pretty sure Dutch puts enough loops in his that they won't slip. If you do, you can always convert them into klemheists, which are basically uni-directional prussiks. I tend to like to over-engineer things; I'm a just-in-caser, so I use klemheists on mine. Of course, the 2.2 might hold a heavier tarp better, but I haven't had any trouble with the 1.7 on my 12 ft. tarp. Here is more information about klemheist knots...

I have three of Dutch's CLR's. I too have had problem with them sliding, especially cranking down the Cuban tarp. I just put two more wraps on the prusik and they work fine.

Thanks for the info. Interesting read on the klemheists/prussiks. Says they call for smaller diameter cord than the "host" rope.

Wonder if there'd be any merit to affixing Tato tarp door hooks to the soft shackles on Dutch's CRL assembly for "quicker" tarp removal. Those Hennessy prusik hooks were sure easy to use. Thoughts?

I got my answer. Dutch said use Dutch hooks instead. There you have it.

That's correct, although I have had abundant success with the klemheists as the same diameter as the ridgeline. I use Dutch's mini ridgeline biners instead of the hooks, I find that they are a bit faster/easier to use, even if they are a bit heavier.

You don't need a soft shackle if you're going to use a hook, just a CL with the hook on it. I've even used Hook Worms. Not as light and small as a Dutch Hook but they're pretty light and have a little "handle!"

Thanks Meckelangelo! Klemheists on my Dutch CRL are the bomb-didn't budge.
