Cook County Forest Preserves: Camp Sullivan

Ok, so since Ive found out, I have been touring the recently opened campsites at the cook county forest preserves. I did an over nighter at Camp Sullivan which is in Oak Forest, Il which is like less than a half an hour away from Chicago. The campsite is the biggest out of the three Ive hanged at..camp reinberg and camp shabbona. This place has sites for rvs, but has tent sites removed from the rv areas. The problem is that the trees are new and most of the sites arent great for hammocking. I stayed at camp site 20 which was tough because i had to hang on a sloping hill. The best sites are site 14 which is isolated and has good trees, site 18 which can trees to hang at least 2 hammocks, site 17, and site 15 which you would have to hang onto a metal hook. You get free firewood, so it was a good time and the amenities are soooo clean because the camps are brand new. Great for campers who live in chicago and dont want to trek that far

thanks for the info.if you find a place for group hang let us know. there are guys interested in chicago area . i drove to bullfrog lake camp and it has new trees so not much for hammocks. there is a group camping area next to restrooms with some trees but im not sure if its good for hammocks

Yeah, I also appreciate the leg work. I still plan on using Channahon but a quick hang in the neighborhood would be nice.

I lived in Chicago for 17 years and knew people who grew up near the CC forest preserve. Not saying I believe it but I heard them swear those woods are haunted. Supposedly they are heavily used by satanic worshippers. They used to see people in hooded robes roaming the forest and would dare each other to go into the woods alone. Lots of bodies found hanging in there too. Not my idea of a fun place for camping.
