Kayaks and Canoes at Killarney Provincial Park in Ontario

Here's a brief trip log of our adventure to Killarney Provincial Park Sept 21-23.

Due to work I can only get time off during the week so I decided to spend a few fall days in Killarney. I was joined for this trip by a few EGL hangers and another who drive up from Ohio !

Monday morning 76 highboy, 1csleptonkayak ( who came up from Ohio ) And myself, Lofty met in Barrie and started our drive to Killarney . Took about 3 hours to make the journey.
Once there we met with Mark1065, picked up our permits and began our journey.

Our route had a few short portages.

I was using a 10' kayak ! And Yes all my stuff fit ( just had to pack like I was backpacking )

    76 highboy was using a 12' kayak

Mark1065 had solo canoe using a double bladed paddle.

1csleptonkayak had an awesome inflatable sit on kayak ( hopefully he attaches a photo - I didn't get one )

A short while later we were at our site on Ruth-Roy - we chose the larger of 2 sites on the lake and had it all to ourselves.

The next day we were going to venture to silver peak - the highest point in Killarney.
This involved some bushwhacking to get to the trail - the brush was really dense and took quite awhile to get through

We did find a really nice waterfall

By the time we got to the main trail we figured that hiking 7 more kilometres to silver peak - and than trying to get back to our site would not be wise.
So we enjoyed our lunch at a nearby campsite before heading back.

We did have a nice chat with 2 hikers that showed up at the site. We parted ways and headed back to our site for the night.

Once back we had a refreshing fall swim in the crystal clear water.

Then it was dinner and an evening around the fire with 76 highboy, Mark1065 and 1csleptonkayak.

We had great weather for all 3 days
The fall colours we just beginning to peek out

You can see silver peak in this picture !

And of course the obligatory hammock pic
My WBBB with mac cat tarp

    That's all for now-

Great shots! Looks like you had some really great weather on the days you went. I can't wait to go back there in the spring! I am surprised you were able to fit your gear into such a small kayak. I have a 16' with 2 bulkheads and I find it hard to get it all in there (though I do tend to bring too much stuff all the time).

Beautiful. I love Killarney and that photo of the lake with the white cliffs in the background is amazing!

    Thanks for the report Lofty.

Yeah, it was beautiful at Killarney. Having never been there, it was as nice as advertized.
As 1csleptonkayak said it reminded him of the Sierras. Testament to the scenery.
I,ll be taking another trip to killarney for sure, either on foot or by paddle
No signs,no fees,no rules, nobody. My kind of campsite.

yes the 10' kayak was a bit interesting to fit my gear in - but a little modification and it worked quite well.
I cut opened the rear compartment open so I could get right into the hull - behind me I had 2x10 liter dry sacks and 1 x 8 litre sac
up in the nose I had a daypack with my kitchen, chair and stuff that didn't really matter if it got a little wet.
I really liked the kayak - being so small it was really fun to paddle - the only thing I would want is to make some kind of yoke to help on the portages.

I personally think Killarney is my favorite park in ontario - I'm more of a hiker and I love the trails there.
