Just got back from a 3 day solo to the Cheaha wilderness in Talladega national forest! Perfect fall weather, really , really relaxing! I didnt see anyone else the entire time (one of the advantages to working most weekends--LOL!) The first night at Mcdill point, I watched a spectacular sunset, ---the pictures don't do it justice. I woke up in the middle of the night to fairly heavy winds and light rain. I was using a camo silargon tarp I made last summer. I've never had her in wind before, so I was a little concerned how she would hold up. No problem whatsoever----worked like a champ ! (Silargon is awesome---thanks dutch!) The next day the weather cleared, and after a very rocky 3 mile hike, I set up camp at cave creek around noon. I spent the rest of the day just relaxing in camp--reading my Kindle, taking a nap, a short walk, etc. Just lollygagging around camp, letting the woods heal my stressed out body and mind. I felt so good after that---it was just what I needed! I hiked out this morning, and drove home. All in all, this was one of my favorite trips ever! (not many miles, but lots of relaxation!!!)
On a side note, you know how sometimes you find strange things in the woods that other people have left at their camp site? There is a secluded little dry camp about a mile from the Cheaha trail head on the cave creek trail. I wanted to scout it out, to see if there was enough room to hang my WBRR. Anyway, next to the fire pit, is one of those plastic bags of fire wood you buy at the gas station! Some poor soul lugged this big heavy bag of fire wood a mile to this camp --and then didnt even use it! (fyi, the wood weighed more than my pack, and there was lots of dead wood right next to the campsite!) You never know what ;you are going to find out in the woods!258.jpg
