It's the same as making an integrated hammock/bugnet. You sew two separating zippers to allow venting / removal. Do a search and there are a few threads on making them up.
On another note if I remember right this tyvek is water repellant to 12-1300 mm. Might whip up a cover for my pack just for fun. Often I don't use a ground sheet, I'll put my pack in its rain cover down below me, it may be more durable that the light sil. I suspect the shock cord around the hem might have more work to do cinching up tyvek. May not work.

If you guys want to try a different color, MENARDS carries Typar instead of Tyvek. It is light gray on one side with MENARDS on it and darker gray on the other side with no writing. I'm using that for a ground cloth. It looks good on the ground.

Interesting concept. I like the design idea but am not a fan of camo.

What is the reason to put the bug-netting on the outside of the "tarp" rather than on the inside? I would think that this would hold the snow and not let it shed off the material.

Yup, it will catch and hold some snow. At this point it's easier to vent at the ends on the inside. Nothing flapping around since the ridgeline catches it. But if it's venting it's open to the snow as well. It's something I'm simply playing around with. Experimenting with tyvek. If I'm out and it's forecasting snow I'll be using the tarp.

To be honest my winter setup is an non-netted hammock with catcuts and knotty mods to hold my quilt in. Beyond 15 degrees F I'll toss a poncho liner / woobie over the ridgeline and tuck it into my uqp no condensation /frost. Snow predicted throw up a tarp high and steep over the woobie

I made a sock out of Tyvek a few years ago, and had to give up on it. If I ventilated it enough to avoid condensation, there was no micro-climate effect.

I wonder about using tyvek as an UQP. I'm sure someone has tried it.

    I bought this on Amazon:

    http://www.amazon.com/Tyvek-Ground-A...rom+Campcovers

I use it as a ground cloth, but because it has taped grommets, it can also be used as a gear hammock, under quilt protector, emergency tarp, or (for extreme weather) a weather shield. I ran it through the washer on cold twice, and it's nice and pliable/soft.
To me it's a "worth the weight/peace of mind" type of multi purpose gear. I carry a little extra zing-it line and shock cord for whatever may come.
