    Made My First Tree Strap

Well I made my first tree strap today. Last night I started digging around looking for some polypro webbing I have had for many years. I finally found the box it was in and decided to use it to make some straps. I had a long piece on a little spool, which I haven't touched yet, and a pre-cut piece. I used the pre cut piece to make the strap. I have a pair of Atlas straps and I sort of looked at that and used it as a guide.

My strap is a little ghetto, since I didn't realize I wasn't doing quite right to make a replica of my other straps. So, at the top, I had some loops that sort of "dangle", and then below those I started sewing the loops at both ends like the Atlas straps. I guess I can live with the ugly as long as it works.

It ended up being a little less than 6 feet, but I guess I am ok with it being it is my first attempt...and I haven't sewn anything in a LONG time. My next one will be longer and better.

We will give it a try in the yard, hanging close to the ground just in case

I think I might should have put this in DIY forum. My apologies. Moderator please feel free to move it there.

    Thanks,

The cool thing about little projects like this is the experience you get from it. If you mess up, no harm, just do it again. It doesn't have to be pretty if it works and YOU like it.

If they work for you then that's all that counts. DIY gear does not have to look pretty or have perfectly straight stitches to work.

Which reminds me, I have to make a few set of straps my self.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

Did you bartack the loops? What did you use, just a regular sewing machine?

They look great -- but if they hold your weight, it doesn't matter *what* they look like! :7)

I thought i made a pretty good set of straps sewed a nice x pattern into the webbing looked pretty good. Then i saw the video clip dutch posted the other night of his new industrial thread injector and he is making a strap loop with it. Like 5 seconds and the most legit looking strap loop pops out of it. Kinda takes the wind out of your sails when you see equipment like that. But even cool stitching cant replace the feeling of satisfaction of making something yourself. Keep making until you have exactly what you want!
