Modified my Exped with Whoopie Slings today

I got brave and cut the ties on my exped, replacing my stock poly ropes (they weighed in at 4.5 ounces for the pair, by the way, with whoopie slings of the same length (actually used twice as much 7/64 Amsteel blue line per side to keep the same adjustably.)

    Here's the final result.

The Hammock now weighs in at 27.2 ounces with the Whoopie Slings attached. I moved and attached the undercover clips to the undercover lines, which now nicely snap over the Amsteel blue without a tie.

I did away with the SMC decending rings and the two biners, saving 3.2 ounces there, but adding in Dutch Clips at 1 ounce.

I'm figuring that the total savings ends up at about 4.5 ounces, but it's a lot more user friendly if you ask me. (My rings were attached to the tree huggers) I can adjust the Hammock from under the tarp. (I don't have to use the Dutch clips, but hey, they are just so freakin handy!)

My next mod will be to replace the stock tarp I think .....

I can certainly get lighter with a hammock but I love the Exped ... and it's about a 1 lb penalty from the Nano, but also has bug protection. I think that's a great tradeoff for here in Texas.

All in all, I'm happy with the mod so far.

    Pics, Please Captn
I have a HH Explorer Deluxe and after reading all the posts on suspension I want to go Whoopie Sling.

I am just held up on how long to make them...
Just duplicate the length of the stock rope???? Maybe...

I use the stock tree huggers but will be comin round to some 1 inch tow straps with the Dutch Clip

The best mod I did with the HH was a zipper mod #3 from 2Q and ZQ. ( I have yet to post PICS and review of the mod).......Terrific results!!!!

ps tried to link to 2Q forum but couldn't...How lame am I??????

Yes, pictures please. I'd like to see how you use the dutch clip with whoopie slings.
