I'm 5'4" and use a full-length underquilt (73"). Since I sleep very cold, I will probably always carry one - even on a thru-hike. While carrying more weight sucks, it sucks even more to not sleep well because you're constantly feeling cold...

This answers another thing I'd been pondering lately.

(So I asked this somewhere else but...) most folks really use a foot pad? Huh.

I'm 5'9" and have a 3/4 length and a 7/8 length winter underquilt. The 7/8 is perfect for me for full coverage. I tried using a reflectix pad in the footbox with my 3/4 length one and I ended up with a wet footbox in my top quilt. I guess my feet just put off too much moisture.

Thanks for the confirmation everyone. I figured I would be just fine with a 3/4. I just wanted some real world confirmation.

To answer the questions though, I mostly do backpacking. I also take a RidgeRest pad just in case I have to go to the ground for whatever reason and for a place to sit. It's also my warm weather "UQ". I haven't used it often enough for it to be a pain yet. It doesn't seem to move around too much on me.

I was just wondering what benefits, if any, there are with a full-length UQ before I pull the trigger on a 3/4.
I'm 5 2 went with winternest. I'm not Ultra light, but I liked it full and I added 2 Oz extra fill. Still is lighter than a tent. I do plan on some serious winter outings.

I like my "full-length" UQ. It is shorter than standard at around 73 inches. No foot pad needed and it has less affect on the lie of my hammock. That said, I also use a 2/3 Yeti UQ. I have found the 3/4 UQ to be problematic for me. I am 5 feet tall and the way I lay has a tendency to push down the end of the quilt and create an air gap. I then have to reposition my feet to eliminated the gap and warm back up. The 2/3 length does not cause that issue. So, for me it is either a full length or a 2/3 length.
