    options: cheap hammock to be used eventually ( or not)

    hi all,

    need some input here and would be glad to hear your opinion

    im searching a hammock to:

    1) live permanently in a pouch on my fishing backpack, to be used whenever necessary, so, it needs to be smallest and lightest as possible, since i will be carrying it as luxury item, that may or may not be used.

    2) be able to deal with all my 360 lbs without much risk (i think a double layer would be good..)

    3) be as cheap as possible, since it may or may be not used, and i dont want to spent much in a item that i can live without .

    4) has its own bug net, so i wont have to buy and carry a separated one.

    searching the foruns, i think that the ENO doublenest would be a good choice, but it doest has a bug net.

    would anyone please enlighten me with another option?

    thanks

    A Dutch hammock with a bug net will cost similar to ebo and be a much better choice.

    +1 to the Dutch hammocks. You could go with a single layer of Hexon 2.4. Also, the Enos are a little on the short side, which is a problem for some ppl.

    Do you mind doing some DIY?

    I think that the Dutch Halfwit in Hexon 2.4. Is the way to go. As for suspension you could add that through Dutchware or you could make your own for super cheap and compact. The packaging with the Dutch hammock might look bigger than say an ENO, but it will fill empty pack space a lot better than a solid ball that the eno will look like.

    Another option is Yukon Outfitters has hammock with bug nets on Woot all the time in the $30 range, though not sure the pack size. You would have to add suspension with those too.

    Hammock on the cheap with bug net, Yukon first come to mind, but your 360 lb vs. their 250 lb rating I wouldn't recommend it.
    Though ENO is 400 lb, the net is extra (you can always DIY a half size one just to shield bug off your face), definite need strap .
    Dutch's site is where you should shop.

    +1 on anything from Dutch. His 11' Hexon 2.4 single layer is very nice will handle your weight and cost is minimal, but you still will need suspension and bug net so you'll end up in the $100 range. Depending on your height you might find the Grand Trunk Skeeter Beater Pro an option. Rated to #400, has it's own stuff sack attached, has a bug net and comes with a suspension system. Not something you want to use on a daily basis but to throw in your fishing backpack, should be just fine. Packs down to slightly larger than a 32oz Nalgene bottle. It's available at times on Woot also.

    Ok.

    It seems that the 11ft netless hammock from dutch would be a good choice for me.

    It is cheap, strong, small and even it doesnt have a bugnet, i think i could attach one by myself.

    I would like to thank you all for your time and valuable help!

    Cheers from Brasil!

    Hi all

    I came here to post some news about my hammock

    I ended with the reccomended hammock and i couldnt be more happy.

    It is exactly what i need.

    Cheap, strong ( hold me and my son togheter), light and small..its perfect for me! Thanks a lot!

    Now i am in search of a tarp to cover it, with the same characteristics, i mean,

    1) to be smallest and lightest as possible, since i will be carrying it as luxury item, that may or may not be used.

    2) be as cheap as possible, since it may or may be not used, and i dont want to spent much in a item that i can live without .

    3) could be used in a flexible way, i mean, serve as a hammock tarp but also protect me as rain cloth

    Well .. it seems that a silnylon poncho would be my ticket to go, since it could be used as diamond tarp.

    But wich poncho fits my bill?
    Any suggestions?

    Googling the net i found some options like:

    Integral desings (seems out of market);
    Sea to summit;
    Campmor/Equinox ;
    Vickis ponchos;
    Jacks r better;
    Golite (seems out of market too);
    Moontrail;
    Zpacks;
    And Custom models, like those made by moonbow (http://hikinghq.net/gear/poncho_tarp.html)

    The problem is that i can choose the best one Since i dont know wich one would be as good as the hammock you guys reccomend me above.

    So i came here to ask some help.

    Any suggestions?
    There are any other low priced, packing light ponchos to consider?

    Wich one would be a good choice to my hammock, also being lightweight, offer a good coverage and not too pricey?

    Thanks!
