Video: Savage Gulf Hike and Hang with Grapenut and Jinx

My daughter and I had a great time this weekend at Savage Gulf. We hiked from the Stone Door Ranger Station to the Sawmill campsite and enjoyed a nice overnighter in our hammocks. We were surprised to find that we were the only campers there Friday night. When I went online to make my reservations a couple of weeks ago, only three of the nine total spots were still available. (NOTE: Tennessee began requiring folks to make reservations online the first week in Sep. Before that it was a first come first served...its ok if you guys stay with us since all of the sites are taken kind of scenario). While you can make reservations, you can't cancel them, thus releasing your campsite back to someone who would actually use it. I stopped by the Ranger Station on the way out to comment on the shortfall and met three fellas that had driven up from Nashville and were being denied the opportunity to camp because they weren't quicker on the keyboard than the folks that decided not to camp (there were eight no shows in the Sawmill area alone!) Ok...rant over...

Jinx and I had a great time enjoying the views, the temperature, and the SOLITUDE (lol).

    Hope you like the video.

Good stuff, Grapenut. Just did a couple of nights over in Cataloochee with my daughter on her fall break. Great to get out in the woods with our daughters. How did that deviled ham ever taste? Yep, I have known that one too! A P-38 ought to be in every one's pack somewhere.

Thanks for sharing that G-nut. Looks like the company you keep on your hikes is improving (lol). Great times, good memories. Hope we get a chance to hang together soon.

Good rant about the reservations. What's to keep someone from putting in bogus reservations to have the woods to themselves? Hopefully they'll correct this.

Thanks Jaxx. Get that hooch out back fixed up and we can go after that. Better to visit the sacred Indian Mounds when the bugs aren't around!

Hey Potneck, you are great company on and off the trail and I am sure any time I spend with you will be an enriching experience for me! Heard you guys had a great time on the Pine Mountain this year. Might try to join you guys if you do it again. BTW, my Barco Lounger is working out great...thanks for the idea. Best Regards, G-Nut

Roger that, at 3 bucks a night it doesn't take a diabolical mind to come up with a way to rule the entire place. They definitely need to make some adjustments.

Nice daddy & daughter time Grapenut, even better in the woods with good weather.

Thanks for the PSA on the reservation system. It's good to know the paper pushing for Nashville is much more efficient.
