    Way to speed hammock setup

I have a HH Hyperlight and already using the Snakeskins. With a stock HH Hyperlight tarp. All is stock with the unit.

Does anyone have and suggestions on decreasing setup time. I will be backpack hiking and looking to streamline the process.

One idea I like is the stuff sack inline with the hammock on the ridgeline.

    Things that annoy me are:

The long lines on the tarp (incase you don't install it to the hammock ridgeline)

Lines on the other 2 corners of the tarp that connect to the stakes or tress.

Lines on the hammock that attach to the tarp rings

    Deploying and stowing tarp

    Any other tips?

    Thanks in advance

    TF

Even though I love knots, I think hardware can be faster. Do you use Dutch Clips to fasten strap to tree? (Dutch I hope I spelled that right.). And you might get no tangle lines. Maybe have stakes always attached to guy lines and larks head them to tarp pullout as needed. I'm not sure if your question is specific to your current rig or about speed in general. Some tarps have a need for only 4 stakes. Mine has 10 stake lines. Four will be faster. SSG Rock has a video of one of his ultra light rigs. He uses two tarp lines, one for each end, but they are short and are clipped on the tree with a small piece of hardware that is a miniature version of a Dutch clip. That line goes to a continuous loop that is larks headed to tarp pullout and is prusik wrapped around tarp line. Very light very fast and short lines less apt to tangle. In general any steps that can be eliminated increase speed. And any material that can be eliminated increases speed. With certain gear you might set up in a minute or less. But you may not want or have that gear. With practice you will be able to set up really fast if it's starting to rain. Have you tried scrunchies hair bands instead of snake skins? When you pack your gear you can know that it will unpack in reverse order. I can't be of much help because I'm slow to set up. Good luck tflaris.

Thanks for the great ideas. The video was awesome. I have pondered how to use Dutch's cinch buckle system with a prusik loop with a clip to attach the tarp.

I find my Hennessey to be pretty fast and easy to set up. I'm using it "almost stock." I have my tarp attached to my hammock suspension using the provided prussic/clips. Thus I don't need to fuss with an extra line to hang the tarp from, and the elastic lines from the sides of the hammock to the corners of the tarp are always attached - no reason to take them out. I do take out the tension hitch that I use in the tarp guy lines, but that's probably overkill and you could leave those in to save a little time/effort.

I do use Atlas Straps. That is way faster than the "Hennessey Hitch" figure eight that Tom Hennessey shows on his site. And for me, a newer hammock camper, it's easier to adjust the hang to get it just right. I just put a bowline in each end of the suspension lines, just after the space needed for the tarp attachment and a little extra space to bunch the snake skin up into... and then clip a carabiner into that loop... then into the Atlas Strap loop... done. I leave the bowline and carabiner on the suspension rope between hangs. No need to take that out and re-make your knot every time.

I know not everybody likes to keep their tarp on the hammock suspension line, but if your pain point is speed and ease of deployment, then it might be worth while to consider putting the tarp back onto the suspension line to save yourself the hassle of dealing with it beyond just tying out the guy lines to foliage/stakes.

cinch buckles are for hammock suspensions, not tarps.

Yes. Cinch buckles on the hammock would be fast but then you loose time putting up tarp. Mine is Asym and requires alignment with hammock pullouts.

That why I was thinking if you had a way to put a prusik loop with a clip for fast tarp setup.

Before I started using Dutch bling I used these. They worked well holding the line with no slippage. I just wanted a lighter alternative.
