Had I a smaller tarp I would jump on the door thing!! Especially for anyone who winter camps or even does near winter camping.
My tarp can be totally closed (allowing for ventilation) & that adds a good 10 degrees to my coldest sleep temp.
Funny how a few yards of Sil can do that.

    I'm in!
I have the Deluxe and Ultra in silnylon. I'd like doors on at least one of them.

    Concept one door mod

How's this for a concept? Looking for feedback.

    rationale:
    1. One door instead of two 1/2 doors minimizes material required. (The overlap required for two doors.)

    2. One door panel sewn to the tarp edging, other door panel fastened with toggles tie, snaps, Omnitape, ??? This is where more R&D is required.

    3. Center of doors able to be staked out so one door panel can be opened while the other in place.

    4. Provide enough material to allow for various tarp pitch angles. A wide tarp angle pulls the center in, a narrow angle pulls out the center.

    5. The whole door can be rolled up and secured with ribbon ties against the sewn side.

Issues? The best way to fasten the door on the open side? An overlap required? A combination of toggle and loops with omni tape? Open for ideas for the best solution. I do plan to kick this around at Mahha. Lots of creative energy usually there.

Can I humbly suggest that the open side fastener be accessible from both sides of the tarp, I feel that toggles would limit access from one side.

Good point. I'm also thinking about ease of use with gloves on.

With two doors that overlap, it's often possible to 'squeeze' between them for entry/exit without having to unfasten or unstake anything. That doesn't look possible with the single door concept.

How are you going to allow for the hammock suspension lines to exit with a single door? It seems that will require more detail than double doors would.

I have found that velcro on my doors to seal and a pitch that lets them close well is pretty light add on for a tarp in snowy conditions....
Mostly I end up this way....

I never end up doing the thin pitch but the option is there....

Doors tie up with line ... pretty easy-peasy.

We were just discussing the suspension access. I have a 6" opening above my zipper but a slit of some sort would be needed for a single door.
The door fastening method and weatherproofing... or lack thereof of a single door is baffling.

Donna is opting for a double door with overlapping flaps.....I do listen to her once and awhile!!

What about double doors that overlap, and that are attached to the edge binding of the tarp via snaps? They would then be removable at will, and require 'modding' a tarp only by measuring and adding the snaps. The doors could be made separately.

    Shug,
On a thin pitch and if you could, would not the flaps being pulled out create more storage room and also create an angle against the wind?
