help: need means to crimp rope for loops

I need to make some loops in rope without tying knots or splicing.

If you're is familiar with rigging, there are clips that can be crimped around wire to make a loop. Well, I can find that fairly easy. What I can't find are the smaller, less expensive versions for rope.

I've got 3mm line and 3/16 shock cord that i want to put loops in without knots. If anyone has a source for some type of steel crimp for rope, I'd appreciate a link.

McMaster Carr has bolt/screw together stuff. But they have sharp edges and i don't want those things near my tarp. I checked strapworks, but couldn't find what I was looking for.

Ask the Jacks where they get the crimps they use on the underquilt suspension cords? I wish I knew, I'd be DIY'ing some stuff at home.

I figured I'd do that as well, Lori. I need to find out when they'll be getting more underquilt suspension in stock.

Quest Outfitters look for Hog Rings.
My knife is so sharp it cut the sixth finger off my right hand! On the plus side, Inigo Montoya no longer hunts me.

That's not exactly what I was thinking it would be, but it looks like it will work. Hog rings - who would've thought to google that? Thanks!

Yeah, gargoyle, that's what I'm talking about. But I don't want to buy the crimpers and I think using a pair of plyers or vice grips would make it look junky. Maybe I'll order a couple from Mcmaster-carr and see how they look. the main thing is I don't want sharp edges.

@jeffjenn -- that's about the speed im looking for. Couldn't find those without the hook on any of the sites I checked. Thank you.

I have used a hammer and a chisel to make an indentation (crimp) to tighten the ferrule onto vinyl cable. I didn't want to buy the crimper either and it worked well for me. The loops I made held up well. I hammered two marks with chisel on each side. I would think this might work for your rope. You could also rig up a crimper using a vise as long as you use something that will make a good indentation to secure the crimp. I have found those ferrules at Home Depot.

Correct, most fabric stores carry the tool for this and the rings.

I tried to find a similar item a while ago. I had a horrible time. I finally got some information (I don't remember where) that crimped collars and rope don't mix because of the compression factor. Bungee is ok. But rope/cord/line is very unstable in crimped connectors. Now I am not saying this of my own expertise and I can't remember whether I dreamed this explanation up or got from a reliable source. But it makes sense to me. Wire cable and fiber lines/cords are too different critters. Any way.. it might explain why you are having trouble finding something. If you are putting you weight on them you might want to consider that in the design.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.
