Just did 30 miles of it from Springer mtn to Neal's Gap. It's a great hike, be ready for the elevation changes! Did hammock camping for the first time. Best nights sleep camping ever! We are hoping to do the Neal's Gap to Hiwase section in April. Enjoy your prep. Try out your equipment before hand and remember and can still be cold, wet and rainy in April.

Tuscaloosa. Tuscaloosa. The name rings a bell. Hmmmm. LOL

Welcome to HF! And enjoy the AT in GA. I remember setting foot for the first time on the AT on Springer Mountain in July 2003 and finishing that trip at Neel Gap, not wanting to be done.

It'll be crowded, but beautiful with spring wildflowers, in April. Enjoy!

P.S. I bet you know, but if not, you might want to check out the premier AT web site, WhiteBlaze.net. HF is a spin-off from WB, which is also an amazing site, for AT enthusiasts.

Welcome from the Atlanta area! I have been on the AT in Ga many times in April. It is usually crowded, and always rainy, so be prepared for that. Some really awesome places to see. - near Syler bald is one of my personal favorites. Standing Indian just inside NC is amazing too! You'll love it.

    Good luck!

Thank you for all the warm welcomes. I am having trouble understanding how to read a compass with a map. I have looked at youtube videos but they never get close ups of what they do with the compass and map. i am a visual learner so I have to see how to do it. i know you line up the base to where you arena where you are going, then you turn the dial to something and then turn the map and i am lost from there. I will look at more videos and see if I can figure it out. I appreciate all the welcomes!! thanks, Cindy
