    KY > RedRiverGorge>Dec12&13- Funky Chicken Hang 2

This year we are going to stay with tradition wood fire rotisserie chicken dinner. The hang will be at the Ft Ancient primitive site, left site in the yellow highlight in the image below, on Tunnel Ridge Road, it is the last parking lot on the left before you get to the Auxier Ridge Trailhead. Feel free to team up and venture out for amazing day hikes while the chickens are cooking. If your new to the gorge there will be several attendees that have walked most of the trails and can guide you where to go. Walkie will be on Channel 5 as cell service is in and out.

If you missed last year's hang here is what you missed:

The primitive area does have 5 to 6 campsites that can hold multiple hangers and a restroom by the parking lot. There is no fee for the campsite only the overnight pass that can be bought at the shell station, no water at the site and getting firewood can be a chore to find/process due to the frequent use during the season, only large logs are usually left. I should be arriving in the am on Dec 12th and jumping straight into getting the chickens on the spit(s).

Funky Chicken: A week before I will get a final count to make sure I have enough chicken for everyone. I think I will go with the herb seasoning as that was the majority leader in taste test last time. Depending on the temp they can take 8 hours to cook. I am going to try to have another rotisserie ordered so we don't have to make one but that was fun.

Veggies: I will be bringing potatoes and sweet potatoes.

Feel free to bring something tastey to share with the group.

Water: The natural spring by the tunnel is a great place to fill up without having to buy or filter.

Desert: I will be bringing one or two homemade cheesecake(s), this has been highly requested.

If you try to snag someone else's slice you will pull back a nub!

Sights: Hanson's point, Auxier Ridge, Creation falls, Indian Staircase, Grays Arch, Cloud Splitter are just a few to name and some are within a mile from a trailhead.

Who cares about showers, gourmet food, using flush toilets. Just keep on walking and being away from it all.

There are times that the only way you can do something is to do it alone.

Me and my German lover will be there! Obviously

I think my boyfriend Ben will be there too. I finally got him shopping on Dutch's site to pick up some lightweight gear!

Of course, as always, when we say we'll be there - we'll be there!

I am absolutely in. I have missed out on too many camping trips this year and will not miss this one. I'll see about getting my wife out since it shouldn't be as cold as it was last year.

How far off the road/parking area is the camping area? I may have a special treat to bring.

    Sounds good.

Also, there is a 99% chance I'll take 1/2 a day off work that Friday and head to the RRG that afternoon if anyone else plans on heading there early.
