    Phoenix 20

I haven't had a chance to sleep in it yet, so I've been taking it out and setting up to get the hang of it.
Took it out this morning, it was about 45 and breezy with the breeze blowing into the foot end. I didn't do
that on purpose, but I thought it would help me find any cold spots. I didn't find any, so I think I have it adjusted pretty good.
On a diagonal, I have the UQ cinched tighter on my right shoulder than the left. On the foot end, it's the opposite.
I'm bad at explaining things so I hope that makes sense. These adjustments may be common knowledge, but I just found out
about it and it solved some of my problems with gaps.
At a breezy 45 degrees I was warm with no top quilt or blanket. Good thing since I don't have a top quilt yet.
I really like this UQ and hope I can do an overnight in it soon. Thinking about getting a Burrow 20 TQ.

I had a bit of the learning curve with my 20° Phoenix underquilt. With a little tinkering and playing with the suspension, I have not had any problems into the 20s. I hope you enjoy your new quilt! I still have not had a chance to test the lower end of the temperature scale as when it has been cold enough I would have to work the next day. Maybe this winter I will get a chance.

I have found that HG's temp rating to be very conservative. I am extremely happy with my Phoenix 40 deg w/1oz ovestuff and used it in 34 degrees very comfortably.

I'm having trouble adjusting it. I feel like there is a big gap in the foot end when I'm diagonal. I guess I'll have to try it when it's cold. It seems like the only adjustments that really help are the barrel adjusters.

You should probably read this thread on how the primary and secondary suspension works:

It doesn't sound like you have a handle on it. I have personally never tried to adjust the HG suspension by myself, and I own three HG UQs. It's impossible to see gaps when you're in the hammock, so it really helps to have an experienced set of eyes to help you.

Also, the Phoenix is a 3/4 UQ, and most people use some sort of pad in the footbox of their TQ to compensate for the lack of coverage. I usually don't use a pad till it gets down to 25* F. I was out last weekend with my Phoenix with a low of 27* F and I didn't use a pad, or wear socks, or any footwear. My feet were warm and toasty.

SilvrSurfr, you must be able to boil water by putting your feet in the pot. One night at 28 degrees with a high-end Thermarest foot pad in my top quilt, and I sold my Phoenix for an Incubator.

Having trouble replying here so I'll make it short.

    Phoenix UQ
    Army intermediate bag for TQ
    Dutch 11' 1.6 hexon hammock

Warm all night. A little chili here and there, no big deal.
Thanks for the link on the suspension!
