    Thread injector question...

I'm considering getting a Janome 2212 thread injector for DIY stuff. Does any of youse guys have experience with this model? I'd probably start off doing simple things such as hammocks, UQ, TQ, and maybe tree straps. If this model isn't up to the task, could you recommend one that is? Thanks in advance.

I don't have experience with that machine, but my first machine was a Janome 128 (basically the next step down in the Janome line up). That machine served me very well, until my abilities started to outpace the machines speed. This machine is slightly faster, and has all the features you will ever need for gear making.

For the price, I'd suggest you also look at the Singer 4423 (Overstock has it for $110 right now). It's a similarly featured machine, and very well reviewed. I currently own one and really like it. It has a little bit stronger/faster motor (1100spm vs 860spm), and a few additional adjustment features that are nice (left/right needle placement [the Janome can only go left, it looks like], and adjustable presser foot pressure [which you wont want to screw with until you really know what you're doing]).

FWIW the stitches I use most often in gear making are: Straight Stitch, Zig Zag, Stretch Straight Stitch, and Button Hole. Actually those are probably the ONLY stitches I use. Both machines will do that.

Thanks, Boston. I really appreciate your feedback. Nice to know that I don't have to spend an arm and leg on a decent machine.

=) Your thread was what inspired me to make this post, Ramblinrev. I learned quite a bit about sewing machines from your thread. Thank you very much.
