    Washington Coast Hang before Thanksgiving.

I am planning a trip to the coast before Thanksgiving, probably the 20th to the 23rd of November. Destination? Shi Shi or Norwegian Memorial beach through the back door. Both are great beaches and there should be lots of hang spots and wood for fires.

I could also go next weekend, November 13th to the 15th.

These are both fairly short hikes in, about 3 miles or so. For me I prefer doing a two night trip because the drive out is fairly long for an overnight. I live in Everett and would most likely take the Kingston - Edmond's ferry. I am VERY open to carpooling, sharing the cost would benefit all. Leaving time on Friday is open, but it would be nice to get on the road by noon at least. Otherwise we'll be hiking in in the dark.

I will probably post this on Meetup also, so there might be some ground dwellers too, unless I get a lot more reprocess here then I expect.

I am also planning on some more hikes this year and next during this winter, both out to the Coast and up into the mountains. The mountain trips will most likely be once the snow starts as most of the areas I go don't allow fires and rain/snow mix sucks!

I have been hoping for a good weekend to do a short trip to the HOH rainforest. But lately the weekends have been overly wet and windy. But I may be game depending on when and how life plays out.

I am working on getting directions and info to access the Norwegian Memorial beach. So if that works out I would like to do that. I really loved that beach and there are a tone of great sites. The access is just off the La Push road, so we could meet in Forks and go from there if that works. Or I can send you directions and you can come out on Saturday. I am hopping to have my new tarp done by then so I should have a good rain setup, but I know not everyone like camping in the rain. Maybe it will turn nice!

Be sure to call the local ranger district as that mess of roads have locked gates. I haven't made it there myself, but would be real interested to know if you find all the gates open.

    Montexan,

I don't know if you use it, but I started a thread over on NWHikers.net. (LINK)

Long story short, it is accessible either by foot / bike or by car WITH a general Access pass from Rayonier timber land, they cost $65.00 for the rest of the year, and will probably start Jan 01 as required for the entire year. Currently only Aug 1 to Dec 31.

I think I am going to head south from third beach to Toleak point area, unless the weather is really nice and then I might head up to the mountains. I guess it will depend on if I get any confirmations.

I have access to the road to the Norwegian Memorial. I have a friend who is a ranger. Usually the gate is open at this time of year. I was expecting to be up there last weekend.

I'll actually be down there on the Kitsap peninsula attending a funeral next weekend for the main organizer of my Norwegian Memorial trips.
