I sewed 2 together, full length, on 3 sides, leaving an opening for additional insulation if needed. Very warm without any extra padding. It was about 60 degrees, but I had to get up and remove it completely because I couldn't sleep I was sweating too much!

Instead of sewing the layers together, you could sew in corner loops and just loop them together... that way you have a stackable system, our could use a PL like a blanket when not in your hammock....

I do not know for certain but the weight of a single PL with shock cords according to dejoha is 23 oz. I can safely assume it will be about twice that amount meaning approx 46 oz or just under 3 lbs.

Not really a light weight option but not as bad as I would expect.

Looks great. Yes, it should work just fine as you have tested. What you are doing, essentially, is creating a differential baffle, similar to what's used on commercial under quilts. On my DIY sewn PLUQ diagram, I attempt this with just one poncho liner. The key is to "pucker" the outer layer enough to create a space that won't be compressed once you get in the hammock.

Sewing will be more effective than just tying the edges, but enough snaps will probably work too. If there are any gaps, you will create a draft, especially on the head/foot ends which will render the UQ ineffective.

Ok, so I tried my first DIY project by making a PLUQ following the second set of directions with a shock cord end attached to the hammock suspension. I ran into a lil trouble with the PLUQ sagging too much in the middle, like 5" low... i switched to 550 cords with a prusik knot on the ends for adjustment on the hammock suspension. It tightened up the bottom well but, then its too tight running along the sides of the hammock and affecting the asymmetric lay. Any suggestions???

i had the same problem with the sagging. i poked and melted holes at the corners, and tied the shock cord there instead or running it through the channels.

Re: DIY, No-Sew, 2-layer, 2/3 Poncho Liner UQ

I sewed loops at 6 points: the 4 corners and the middle on each end. When I fold the liner, I end up with 4 tie outs. The shock cord is tied or toggled to each end. Lately I have used one lone piece for the head end and 2 shorter pieces on the foot end that are independently adjustable. I find that works better for my footboxed diy hammock...

Just tested mine this weekend. Great instructions, by the way! I had some major sag in the middle until I realized that 1) I didn't have it pulled up enough on each end (my first UQ so I wasn't sure where it should be in relation to the hammock when there's no weight) and 2) the shock cords were pulling loose out of the cord locks as I got into the hammock. Tied a half hitch off each cord lock and that problem was solved. The two accessory cords are a lot tighter than I thought they would be.

It was in the mid-40s and I got cold so I put some Reflectix between the two layers of the PLUQ. I warmed back up but noticed it weighed the bottom layer down about an inch. I may have to cut the Reflectix into a more PLUQ-conducive shape/size.

I found a good source for poncho liners online. They carry new and used liners. The owner is a retired game warden which I am sure is the origin of the company name. Warden's supply. A google search will find it. Good luck.
