I really like to crank my tarp down tight. I'm curious if these kinds of poles would work...I'm imagining them holding up OK, but flexing too much like a bow.

    How about collapsible hiking poles?
Quite a few people seem to use them.

Left side, aluminum poles. A single pole in the center works.

If you are looking for poles that will act like posts, then yeah, hiking poles.

I just use some bamboo when car camping or some sticks if I'm in the woods.
    Have sherpas, will travel...

I always carry one trekking pole. I use it on one side of my hex tarp and find a stick wherever I set up camp for the other side. Works for me, and it's one less thing to carry. If you're car camping, who cares? Bring a 5ft section of gas line black pipe. It's cheap. If you.have to pack it in, you have to pack it out. Use what's already there, IMHO.

Hiking poles are great if you use them. If you don't, they are just extra weight.

I used to never use hiking poles until I turned 55 and tried them. I could never hike again without them.
