Hunting from hammock?

I've been an avid deer hunter for many years but never hunted from a hammock until this past week.

I used my hammock like a chair until shortly after daylight but the temptation to lay in it overwhelmed me.
A few hours later i was awoken from my deep sleep by the rustling of dry leaves caused by a herd of deer,they were only about 30 yards away and blew,snorted and bolted as soon as i pulled myself up for a look.

I'm at the age now that just being in the woods and enjoying the sites and sounds of nature are far more important then the harvest which would be impossible while sleeping anyway.

I suggested the same thing to my friend who is a deer hunter. I think he was afraid he would fall asleep too

Had my WBBB in my yard a few nights ago. Sensor light went off and woke me up. Sat up and looked to my left - nice mature 8 pointer sitting there in the light snorting and stomping at me

I'd guess it would make for an interesting if not dangerous perch to fire a shotgun or rifle from. Not sure how I feel about the idea.

Impossible to draw a bow in one.

Blackpowder would smoke up and possibly burn the hammock material.

Still a neat idea. If it was hunt low enough you could likely do it and use it to remain stealthy assuming low or no wind.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone else had tried this!

I was bowhunting last week and hung in my yukon-style hammock chair.

CONS
1. It needs a underquilt, burrr butt. Morning temps low 40's, my long johns didn't have enough r-value.
2. With an extra chunk of fabric for cover/blind, it could work. Kind of felt like I was in plain view. Find the right trees and build up some brush for cover would be an option.
3. Slippery, silnylon and goretex scentlok jacket equal butter on a hot pan. Fabric noise was an issue too. I'll try it again with a more cottony fabric hammock that I have. But with this first try I couldn't stop sliding down in the chair.
4. Hard to spin around and see in all directions, harder to shoot, almost impossible to draw my bow. I could only shoot to my left, I'm right-handed.

PROS.
1. Lightweight, fit in my pocket, halfway out to my hunting spot I thought I forgot it. Had to check my pockets twice
2. Quiet setup just tie it off to the trees and it didnt make any noise or slip.
3. versatility, it can be strung up overhead for a rain shelter.
4. Cords or webbing (I'm using muletape) for suspension can be used to help drag the deer out.
5. Comfy, sleep is an option.

I also want to try to hang it from an aerial veiwpoint, high in a tree, using the crotch of the branches and the main trunk, similar to a three tree hang. Safety first of course. Gotta find the right tree with the right branches.

I do alot of waterfowl hunting from layout blinds. But if I took a hammock down to my pond, I'd sleep thru duck season....

How about a motion sensor pointing toward the sky that would give you a mild shock when the ducks come into view

I hunt from my hammock. I am comfy and make no noise tromping around. The proper hang height must be found. This allows straddling the hammock and sitting in it like a chair. Both feet must touch the ground while sitting up in order to take a shot.

My main problem tends to be falling asleep and scaring off the game with my snoring.

I have intentions of finding blaze orange string to tie a strictly hunting hammock.

Be careful... the ejected shell casings are hot & will burn a hole clean through your nylon hammock...
