    Doubling-Up Two Under Quilts..?

I'm sleeping outside this weekend and I know the temp will be below freezing. This is my first trip this cold in the hammock and I obviously want to be warm.

I have a 25 degree JRB partial under quilt and a 25 degree JRB Hudson River top quilt. Love them for three seasons.

I'm thinking of putting the partial on and then using the Hudson River as a bottom quilt over that (so, doubling-up the under insulation) and then using a zero degree sleeping bag I have as my top insulation.

I also have a 2QZQ under quilt protector I can add under both quilts.

What are everyone's thoughts about this strategy?

    Thanks!

Sounds good to me, it's quite a faff to not cause too much compression and you'll always get some but it works well.
Success doesn't come to you, you go to it.

If your UQ is your bottom most layer and you put the TQ above that will there not be overhang of the TQ since the UQ is only partial? (10-12 inches). Assuming you're definitely going to use the UQP I don't think it's a big deal and as long as you allow the UQ to be sufficiently loose to keep the loft in the TQ I don't see why you couldn't take that down well into freezing.

25 is still below freezing, depending on how cold of a sleeper you may not need the TQ under you? Especially with the UQP which they say adds around 5*

I would put the partial over the full length. I have done that with success in the past.

Would it matter if one is a synthetic? My partial is synthetic and my full is down.

I have never tried that combo. Just make sure not to compress the down one if you end up putting it on first.

If you put the full over top of the partial wouldn't you have some extra air and dead space at the foot section between the hammock and the full?

I think that's a great idea. I'll go with that, Sean.

    Thanks, everyone!

Gotta agree with Shug, if anyone has tons of real experiance,it's Shug.Dont think you could find a better source of hammock wisdom than that.

Not sure how cold you are expecting. If you are thinking you will be pushing the limits of the quilts with temperatures in the 20s, you may not have to go that far. If you have a sit pad, you could put it under your bottom if you are getting cold. You could add more layers. I like to bring one of those 50 cent handwarmears and crack that open if I start to get cold. One time I got cold just before dawn even though it was only supposed to get into the 30s, and later found out it was only 12.
