As Ida blesses us with rain today, I am on the roof, soaking wet, fixing a leaky roof (gutter problem). I look out in the yard and see my HH Explorer with the stock tarp. Bone dry inside.
Love it or hate it, that little stock tarp works.

Are you on the roof fixing a leak with your camera?
But yea, that stock HH tarp does keep the hammock dry.

I've used one of those silly little things in some pretty heavy rain storms down in Florida. It always kept me dry, just didn't allow for much beyond being stuck in the hammock.
Trust nobody!
I used one on my Montana hike last summer. I was able to raise the side and had no issues cooking and hanging out. I did get some rain in one night, but it wasn't strung properly so can't blame the tarp.
I still remember mine with a lot of affection. The simplicity of it is awesome.
Predictions are risky, especially when it comes to the future.
I used mine on a very wet thruhike. It worked very well. Thank god for shelters to eat in though.

Well, I don't miss mine a bit, especially since my Macat DLX SpinnUL weighs only about two ounces or so more.
At this weekend's Fall MAHHA hang I was the only one with the lowly HH tarp. I say big tarps are for wimps!

True! I did a one week hike with one on my 1st hammock trip, and never used it again on an actual trip. But I still remember, in comparison, the joys of only 2 stakes for the ground and none to the tree. No luxury there, but major quick and simple. Plus, dry if you do it just right. Biggest problem was noise in the wind, which could be reduced with a trick or three. I've still got mine.
But even better, just like it but a little bigger ( and heavier ) : The Claytor diamond tarp.
