VIDEO: "Over The Tarp" Ridgeline Set Up

Yes, I'm an "under the tarp" kind of guy myself. Takes the weight off the tarp's ridgeline tieouts, and (more importantly, as you point out) is my clothesline. At night my hiking clothes go over the line for airing but are still under the tarp.

Socks go as far away from my face as possible...

When I pack up my tarp, I do a kind of on-the-fly folding up that achieves what reefing achieves, and roll the fabric up into a sort of cylinder as I walk towards the tree. Get to the end, unhook the line, wrap it around the cylinder, and pop into the sack. Stays off the ground that way.

Another great video, Shug! Here's a thought: I'm using the guidegear 12x12 tarp, pitched on the square. This tarp has a center tieout point. So if I staked it out like a Speer winter tarp, and tied a prussic to each end AND the middle ridgeline tieout, I'm thinking that I could actually reef the head end of the tarp out of the way for a more open view. In other words, slide the head end prussic towards the center, and the setup would be more "open". This would allow me to rapidly deploy the head end of the tarp in case of wind/rain.

Thoughts?

This may have already been mentioned, but I've been using a something similar to Tee Dee's reefing method only I use small loops of shock cord (think rubber band). About 5-6 for a tarp work nice. Simply Roll up the tarp and slide the shock cord loop in place. Repeat down the length of the tarp.

I also have been using the a very similar tarp ridge line setup running under the tarp instead of above. It's nice to have the line under the tarp to hang stuff. With RL under the tarp you can also tire your hammock up and out of the way if you are cooking or just need more space underneath.
