    GT Single Parachute Nylon modifications

Recently acquired the single and by eliminating the hanging ropes provided (3.7 oz.) and replacing the ropes at the gathered ends (0.9 oz.) with Dutch's 8" Amsteel Single Continuous Loops, and CAMP Nano 22 carabiners in place of GT's included carabiners (4.3 oz) the hammock now weighs 18.7 oz which also includes 2 - 6' Tree Huggers from WhoopieSlings.com.

A 4.5 oz. weight savings compared with the 23.2 oz. from the manufacturer and though it may not seem like much if one is trying to lighten their pack load every little bit helps.

Certainly there are other lightweight hammock choices available. This is simply what I've done and am posting the information for anyone who has a single, or is considering the purchase of same.

That's funny I did almost the same thing last night!

I used warbonnet webbing/buckle suspension, though. That had the amsteel loops built in. I just ran those through after removing the stock black rope. And my Nano 22 biners arrived last night.

Total was 20.5oz I think. I really like this hammock! It's heavier, but more comfortable than my WB Traveler.

I have a DutchWare Hexon 1.6 Netless which is a tad longer but narrower and the GT being a bit wider is more comfortable for me as well. After the modifications there isn't a lot of difference in the weight between the two.

The thing I really love is the attached pouch. Not so much for stuffing the hammock into itself; but to store small items at night like my contacts case, solution, and headlamp. It's right in the middle at arms length. Perfect! I miss the shelf of my WBBB, but this almost makes up for it.

Agree,...and another place I've discovered that works well for hanging/storing items that have a small carabiner affixed to them, whistle, flashlight, thermometer. pepper spray and etc., are the small plastic rings on the edge of my HG 20 TQ.

Within an instant's hand reach, no digging around searching for what you might want, or need, at a moment's notice.
