.344 poles for pole mods now available at www.Dutchwaregear.com

We now have .344 aluminum poles available to make any length pole mod. These come in 13 inch long, male and female poles along with matching tips that accept shock cord. A typical pole will take 3 males, 1 female, two tips, and 3/32 shock cord per pole assembly. It is best to put the female as one of the center poles so when they break down they are even.

I'm sorry to disagree, but, here goes. If you have 2 male poles, one female pole and then one male pole, the first 2 male poles will extend the length of the male part past the end of the female pole and the single male pole will extend one male part past the other end of the female pole resulting in a total unevenness of two male parts plus one pole tip. If one were to assemble the same poles with 3 males then the female, the three male poles would end up even (with one pole tip extended and the female pole with pole tip would be one male part short of the other pole tip at one end and aligned at the other.

That is unless the female pole is the length of the male pole plus the male part in which case it doesn't matter at all.

That goes without saying - as evidenced by the fact that I didn't say it.

I am happy you now carry them and I will very likely end up buying some from you.

A year or two ago, there was a thread about buying some surplus military pole sets. I bought a couple sets and made a spreader pole for my OES MacCat Deluxe. It's a great improvement over using tie-outs.

HOWEVER, while that pole diameter is fine for tent use, where it needs to hold up the tent and the tarp and has strong grommets to make it bend, ... these poles are far too strong (IMHO) and much more heavy and "big" than necessary for tarps alone. When going to the ground and using the tarp alone, the pole is too strong (stiff) to bend easily. I've had to run a cord along the ground, under my sleeping gear, from one end of the pole to the other, and pull it tight. Also, I'd love to build a small "tent" for my dog, but these poles are WAY too stiff to bend enough over that short a length.

SO, QUERY: Any chance you can get poles about half that diameter with much more flexibility, more suitable for hammock tarps, etc?

2QZQ currently has my tarp to install their interior pole mod. Once I know the length of pole I'll need, you'll have my order in.

Is that a Hammeck shirt I see under the sweatshirt? Way to incorporate the subliminal messaging.
