Also by keeping at least a 3wrap prusik-this allows ease of use as you have two hands to tie slip knot as the prusik holds everything in place before slip knot is tied. And if prusik has correct amount of wraps, if the slip knot fails then you will slowly descend to ground instead of hard fall. And toddhunte, Grogg knot app has information warning about slipping and confusion of taut line hitch versus the better midshipmans hitch. Good luck and I hope to have two videos out soon-"two weeks"

TominMN, yes the rigging shown in video works and I use it once a month. That 5wrap prusik holds without slipping IF you hand tighten or set prusik before hanging. It can be fiddly to loosen prusik after hang. Thanks to octagone and his slip knot(I call it the octagone hitch) I hope to go to Kevlar straps and will experiment with correct number of prusik wraps and just slide prusik down to a separate slip knot in Kevlar. Prusik in video must be loosened to slide--I think it will slide much easier on Kevlar--and hoping that will solve the fiddly ease of use . If it's hard to do--no one will use it with sundown and rain squall imminent.

Great responses. A little visual will help on some of these multi-knot suggestions. Is a slip knot and prusik preferable to a single Beckett though? Would a Kleimheist hold better?
As for buckles etc, although I am a gadget fan, especially the well-thought out kind, part of the fun for me has been learning simple effective knots. Right now I have different knots on each end of my new tablecloths, just for kicks. My Dutch clip knock-off at the tree isn't going anywhere though.

PG, how about making the prusik loop (on the strap) long enough to tie to the hammock loop in a Beckett hitch (or some other knot/clip etc), then using the prusik to adjust the length? If it holds, once tied, the set up is fully adjustable, and the straps don't need to be disconnected. So, tree strap clipped to tree, prusik on the strap, prusik connected to hammock loop.

Am I missing something here? Is there something wrong with a marlin spike hitch? I feel like the extra couple seconds to adjust it is worth not risking a prusik not holding or slipping/sagging?

You're not missing anything, Canahang. Some folks are interested in a "no hardware" suspension. Many folks (like me) use a marlin spike hitch every hang. There are several other types of suspensions too. HYOH!

Watched it. Pretty cool. Been a fan, following your various post, for a while now.

Love knots too. More than a bit rusty these days.

I don't use hardware for my MSH. Unless a stick from the ground counts! Haha. But I feel you, HYOH. I just like to keep it simple
