yea - i think what they mean are the middle two tieouts on each side then the doors? i have a SWT and have been having similar issues (SWT new to me). get the four main tieouts tight then tightening the doors tieouts loosen the mains then tighten the main to loosen the doors - it seems to be a balancing act.

My tarp is very similar to the Speer winter tarp, four tie outs on each side. I've staked the loops directly to the ground, staked two doors on one end to a single stake, and had a taut and stable setup before. It was on a hill, tho, so the geometrics were a little different... I've also staked with both ends closed, shock cord tensioners on the guy lines, and had no difficulties. So I think tensioners will perhaps help.

By the way, guys, TAUNT is what you do when you mock and tease people. TAUT is what you want to make your tarp. Careful when the spell check gives you suggestions.

It helps to make sure that you pull out at a 45º angle on the 4 main tie out......

Right! That's what I'm going to try next - I don't think i've been getting the angle just right on the four mains. Set it up like a regular tarp ignoring the doors until you get to them.

    thanks Shug,
