Cool Version 1 of the Karo Step Quilt Calculator

Well time to make some Karo Step quilts
    I wanted a calculator
so I took CatSplats calculator, added a metric conversion some time ago,
and now converted it to a Karo Step Calculator.

    It makes some assumptions,
The quilt under quilt or top quilt is a rectangle.
Down Fill Power is USA rating value not the EU value.
Cost calculator is absolute numbers to currency is not relevant just use your local numbers.
It assumes this is not differential cut.

It helps you work out the sizes for whole squares,
takes into account the square loft above the baffle size.
But does not for the width and length, so the final filled quilt will be small than planned I think add about 10% to width and length to account for loft on a typical quilt.
    Has a rough cost calculator
Has a metric to imperial calculator.

    See what you think

    Cheers

was wondering if someone could help me with this. There is an input for "Middle of Square Max Height" I understand how to create baffle height. You just simply cut out an extra half inch seam allowance and sew the actual height. What determines how high it actually puffs out in the middle? and how do you measure for it? Do you add extra width to the quilt???

I am making a 30 degree quilt with 6 inch karo step baffles. 72 by 48 inches. it will more than likely be a drawstring footbox and instead of having it sewn at the end it will have buttons so I can double it as a flat blanket for wrapping around me in camp.

Omlet, I'm not very familiar with Karo, but from what I know about other down quilts, the height of the baffle/the max height/fill amount are determined by your target temp. Usually, I think you want your max height set to slightly higher than your baffle height and that calculates how much fill you should need to achieve that. Too little fill and your height will be lower and too much fill can puff up the quilt and shrink the length/width dimensions. Sorry I'm not more of an expert but glad to help a Roman in need :-)
